Investments

As I was in a small group for prayer and worship, God began pointing out to me the people in the room. Each of us with different testimonies, different ups and downs, but all the same glorious God. He began showing me how He has invested into each of His children. When investing we put into something expecting a result. God has a purpose, a specific outcome for each of us. He invests into each of us for His purpose, His will. And He keeps investing! Mercy, grace, and love He keeps investing into us so we will get back up every time we fail and continue towards His will.

Then God reminded me of the parable of the man who was going on a trip and gave three of his servants a portion of his money “each according to his ability” (Matthew 25:15). Two of the servants took the portion they were given and doubled it, but the other buried His coin in the ground. (Mat. 25:16-18). When the man came back His response to the two who doubled his money was this: “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” (Matt. 25:21). And the response to the servant who buried his coin was this: “You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt. 25:26-30).

Here we can see Jesus contrasting a servant who takes His masters investment and doubles his return versus a servant who does nothing with what has been invested into him except bury it so not to lose it. The consequence of each is something to truly meditate on. What have you done with the Lords investment?

“Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”

Matthew 25:21
